Let's keep it real here... just like the title says, Ricky Rubio is being a set of beef curtains. And I'm happy that when someone types in "Ricky Rubio" and "beef curtains," in Google or Bing (official Bloguin sponsor), this post will be at the top of the list. You know, because a lot of people type those keywords in search engines. But, anyway, why would I be happy? Because Ricky Rubio needs to be called out on some vaginal shiznit. I actually feel bad for Minnesota Timberwolves decision-maker, David Kahn, because he tried his damndest to get Rubio in the NBA, Rubio's so-called number one goal. Kahn met Rubio and his family, as well as DKV Joventut, a few times in Spain to cut a deal to get Rubio in a T-Wolves uniform.
I'm glad that in their official statements both Kahn and DKV Joventut put the blame on the failed attempt to get Rubio in the league squarely on Rubio's shoulders. There was a deal done between the T-Wolves and DKV Joventut to make this happen. But then Rubio backed out after repeated confirmations that he did want to play for the T-Wolves. Here's what he officially said:
"I am getting a haircut. I'm uncertain as to the exact style I will be getting, but my options are the following: cutting all of my hair with a patch of it left at the front of my head. I call this Hitler's mustache. However, I would have reservations sporting this style should we play Maccabi Tel Aviv or some other Israeli team. Another option is the close-cut mohawk, which I call the landing strip. However, I also feel that if I am going to cut my hair, I should go all the way and shave all of it. A wooden floorboard if you will. Also, I will not be playing with the Timberwolves because the aforementioned three hairstyles would not be conducive to keeping warm in Minnesota. And I really want to cut my hair. Thank you."
Okay, fine, so he obviously didn't say all of that, but he did say this:
"The reason leading me to take this next step is to have a period of preparation to better take the challenge of the NBA in better conditions as a player. The Minnesota Timberwolves continue to be my first option and I wish to play with them in the near future."
Damn, man. Who's part of his inner circle? Trip McNeely? I'm sorry, T-Wolves fans, but I don't think that Rubio is ever going to play for your team. He had the perfect opportunity to do that now with everything in place, including joining a bad team that will have low expectations. There would be very low media coverage, relative to playing for a team such as the New York Knicks, a team rumored to be a place Rubio agent, Dan Fegan, wants him to play for. All of this doesn't make sense if we go by what Rubio has been professing for a while now - he wants to be in the NBA and he wants to play for the T-Wolves.
Right.
Well, the winner here is Jonny Flynn as he will likely be the starter for the T-Wolves. Another winner is fellow rookie, Brandon Jennings, who before the draft called Rubio overrated. Maybe Jennings is right. Maybe Rubio knows this too and isn't ready for the competition. Sure, he'd also have to deal with living in a new country, but that's the only new obstacle that I see. Rubio has been playing against men double his age for years now. He's had to work hard and become better than he was in order to succeed on the court. Basically, he just had to play basketball and living in a new country would have worked itself out. Besides, it's Minnesota where the only creepy thing about it is Prince.
Oh well, see you in two years, Rubio, ya pussy.
