About BM

Barkley's Mouth is all about the NBA as we speak on what's going down in the Association today and what should be happening down the line.  It's all about the glory (and disgrace) of the NBA. Our style is down, dirty, honest, and entertaining, just like Charles Barkley himself. Thanks for peeping what we throw down!

Slane's Top 10: Who’s Having the Best Offseason?

Find out which teams are having the best offseason so far…

10. Boston Celtics
Added:
Rasheed Wallace At age 34, Wallace clearly wants another ring before he retires. And Boston could be the right place to get it. He joins a veteran team that still has a couple more years left in them.

9. Washington Wizards
Added:
Randy Foye and Mike Miller The Wizards could have kept the No. 5 pick in the draft and selected Ricky Rubio, who likely won’t even play in the NBA for at least two seasons. Instead, they decided to add two veterans to a team that was injured last season and could be contenders in the East this year.

8. Houston Rockets
Added:
Trevor Ariza The signing of Ariza doesn’t make up for the loss of Ron Artest or the fact that Yao Ming’s career could be over. But Ariza is young, coming off a breakout season, and could be a big-time player in the future.

7. Cleveland Cavaliers
Added:
Shaquille O’Neal and Anthony Parker Cleveland’s trade for Shaq was the greatest thing to happen to the Knicks this offseason. O’Neal is not going to be the long-term answer to keep LeBron James from bolting for the Big Apple next summer, even if the Cavs win a championship next season. Parker is solid and re-signing Anderson Varejao was important, but the Cavs could have done better.

6. Los Angeles Lakers
Added:
Ron Artest No matter how crazy he might be, I still think Artest is an upgrade over Trevor Ariza, who left for Houston shortly after Artest left the Rockets to play for the defending champs. Now, the Lakers need to figure out how to keep Lamar Odom.

5. Toronto Raptors
Added:
Hedo Turkoglu I’m not sure if I would have exchanged Shawn Marion and Anthony Parker for the 30-year-old Turkoglu, but the Raptors needed to make some noise if they want to keep Chris Bosh after this season. Turkoglu was the best player on the Eastern Conference-champion Orlando Magic last season; now let’s see if he is worth $50 million.

4. Detroit Pistons
Added:
Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva The Pistons made the first major splash in free agency this summer by adding perhaps the best available player in Gordon and a solid forward in Villanueva. I’d take Gordon and Charlie V. over the aging Allen Iverson and Rasheed Wallace any day. Too bad these moves won’t turn Detroit into a contender.

3. Orlando Magic
Added:
Vince Carter, Ryan Anderson, and Brandon Bass The Magic have lost Hedo Turkoglu and probably Marcin Gortat, who is a restricted free agent, but the three players they brought in won’t hurt their chances of repeating as East champs.

2. Dallas Mavericks
Added:
Shawn Marion and Marcin Gortat Add the re-signing of Jason Kidd and Dallas is back in business following a disappointing second-round exit last season. The Magic likely won’t match the offer for Marcin Gortat, a restricted free agent, after signing Brandon Bass away from Dallas. Marion playing alongside Josh Howard and Dirk Nowitzki should be interesting.

1. San Antonio Spurs
Added:
Richard Jefferson and Antonio McDyess The Spurs gave up three old-timers in Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas, and Fabricio Oberto to acquire the athletic Jefferson from Milwaukee. The 29-year-old Jefferson is in the prime of his career and, along with McDyess, instantly makes San Antonio a major threat in the West again.
